The two core components of Pool Cleaners: filtration methods and analysis of suction sources

2026,10,13
The effectiveness of Pool Cleaners in intercepting pollutants and the ability of suction to cover the bottom and walls of the pool during pool cleaning depends on the design of the filtration structure and suction system. These two core components together determine the actual cleaning capability of Pool Cleaners. This article analyzes the product from three perspectives: filtering method, suction source, and their matching relationship.

Filter bag is the most common filtering device, usually made of fine fabric and installed inside or at the rear of Pool Cleaners. The water carries pollutants into the bag, particles are intercepted by the fabric, and clear water flows out through the filter cloth. The mesh density of the filter bag determines the minimum size of particles that can be retained. The coarse filter bag has a larger mesh size and is suitable for intercepting large particles such as fallen leaves and hair; The mesh of the fine filter bag is dense and can trap fine sand and algae, but the water flow resistance also increases accordingly. The capacity of the filter bag affects the frequency of emptying during the cleaning process. The larger the capacity, the more dirt can be treated in a single cleaning.
The filter element adopts replaceable filter element components, and the filter element is composed of folded filter paper or sponge material. The filtration accuracy of the filter cartridge is usually higher than that of the filter bag, which can intercept finer particles. The filter element needs to be replaced or cleaned regularly, and the cost of use is slightly higher than that of the filter bag. Some products adopt a double-layer filter structure, with the outer coarse filter intercepting large particles and the inner fine filter intercepting fine pollutants.
Sedimentation filtration utilizes the principle of natural settling of particulate matter after a decrease in water flow velocity. After entering the sedimentation chamber, the flow rate slows down, heavier particles settle to the bottom of the chamber, and clear water overflows from above. This filtering method has a simple structure, but its filtering accuracy is limited. It is mainly used to intercept particles with high density such as sediment, and its effect on floating light debris is not good.
There are two main sources of suction for Pool Cleaners: external filtration system suction and internal pump suction.
The suction force of the external filtration system refers to the Pool Cleaners being connected to the existing circulating filtration system of the swimming pool through a hose, and using the negative pressure generated by the filtration system water pump to suck in the pollutants. The suction force of this method depends on the power of the external filtration system and the resistance of the pipeline. The length, diameter, and degree of curvature of the hose all affect the efficiency of suction transmission. The longer and more bent the pipeline, the weaker the suction force reaching the cleaning head.
The built-in pump suction refers to the small water pump that comes with an Pool Cleaners, which independently generates suction. Pool Cleaners typically adopt this design. The power of the built-in pump determines the suction size and suction stroke. Pumps with higher power can generate stronger suction, but power consumption and noise also increase accordingly. The design of the inlet and outlet of the built-in pump affects the water flow path and suction distribution, and a reasonable flow channel design can achieve more uniform suction coverage at the same power.
The filtering structure and suction system need to be matched to achieve optimal performance. When the filtering resistance is too high and the suction force is insufficient, the water flow cannot pass through the filter material smoothly, and the suction force decreases significantly. Pool Cleaners may not be able to effectively suck in pollutants. When the suction force is too strong and the filtering area is insufficient, the surface of the filter material is quickly covered by dirt, and the water flow channel is blocked, which also leads to the attenuation of suction force.
The matching of filtering area and suction size is a key balance point in design. When the filtering area is sufficient, even if some of the filter surfaces are covered by dirt, the remaining filter surfaces can still maintain water flow through, and the suction attenuation is slow. For built-in pump products, the power of the pump needs to be coordinated with the filtration area. Excessive power and insufficient filtration area can cause rapid clogging of the filter material, while insufficient power and excessive filtration area can result in insufficient suction.
The filtering structure needs to be cleaned regularly to maintain suction. After each use, the filter bag should be flipped over to remove debris, and the inner wall of the bag should be rinsed with clean water to avoid clogging the mesh after the debris dries. The filter element type filtration device needs to be replaced regularly according to the instructions. Cleaning can only restore partial filtration capacity, and the filter material structure must be replaced after damage. The sedimentation filter chamber needs to open the bottom cover to discharge the sediment.
The maintenance of the suction system mainly involves pipelines and pump bodies. The hoses of Pool Cleaners should avoid sharp bends and long-term compression, and be stored in a natural tray. The inlet filter of the built-in pump needs to be cleaned regularly to prevent debris from entering the pump body and causing impeller jamming.
Overall, the filtering structure and suction system of Pool Cleaners are the two core elements that determine their cleaning ability. The filtering method affects the size and emptying frequency of particles that can be intercepted, while the source and size of suction determine whether pollutants can be effectively sucked in. Only when the two are matched properly can stable cleaning effects be achieved. Users can pay attention to the filtration accuracy based on the type of pool waste, the suction configuration based on the pool area and pipeline conditions, and regularly clean the filtration device to maintain suction during use.
